Walking Figure

Free standing bronze statue by Donald Baechler . The piece depicts a young woman or girl walking and frozen in mid-step. The slightly bored expression on the face has always puzzled me especially since Donald Baechler work has been largely by the art of children, even though he has been on the international art circuit since the 1980s.

Florida's Soul

This piece by Jaume Plense is made up out of stainless steel and stone and measures 107 x 74 x 103 1/8 inches. It is located at the Aventura Mall in Aventure Florida right in the center of a koi pond seated upon a rock. The sculpture was based on the artist Jaume Plensa himself and has earned many nick names, one I have heard panty of times is David Letterman. Surely the letters that makes up the figure of the seated man has a lot to do with its alias.

"Exit Through The Gift Shop"

Thierry Guetta is the outsider among outsider artist. In this documentary we are given a peep hole into the world of street art. What I once bundled together as graffiti has now been burst wide-open and the levels of Street Art were relieved. The documentary began with Thierry Guetta following his cousin Spaceinvader through the streets of Paris tagging buildings, sidewalks, and bridges with mosaic tile work and his famous stick figure character. The movie later goes into depth in the works of L.A. artist Shepard Fairey and English artist Banksy. Banksy was by far my favorite artist and his show Barely Legal looked like the experience of a life time. Graffiti, stencils, stickers and installation were his weapons of choice to decorate building tops and street corners. In the beginning I thought the documentary would be of Thierry Guetta following Banksy on nightly missions in L.A. but I was wrong. Instead the Street Art of Thierry himself was the topic of interest. Toward the end of the movie Banksy made the comment that most refine their techniques over the years but Thierry skipped all that and went straight for the gallery show. In other words Thierry was a sell out in it for the money. And in my eyes Thierry is the ultimate outsider in outsider art.

Art In A Nutshell

"What is Art?" Although I do not believe art should be limited to the definition a single person attaches to it I would like to share what art means to me. Art is the interruptions of emotion which can be expressed within dozens of different Medias or mediums such as photographs, painting, poetry, song, and countless others. Art can be the product of countless hours over a canvas, a moment in life captured by a camera or the spontaneous masterpiece that seems to come from thin air. Art is far more than just the things we find in museums and galleries it is a factor that is part in our everyday existent be it intentional or driven by our unconscious mind.

Venue Poster of Josephine Baker

The Title reads "Women Celebrate" with Josephine baker in one of her most famous erotic costume which she donned during her banana dance.

"Since I personified the savage on the stage, I tried to be as civilized as possible in daily life." - Josephine Baker

After my very first glimpse of this woman I knew her name would be one that would stick with me through the entire time I spent at the museum.

Somethings Just Happen

Ooops

Some people may look at life and think they are in complete control. This picture is a reminder that somethings in life just happen. Strange as it might be this moment of the simple beauty of nature was captured by my camera by complete carelessness. This image was taken as I tried to snap I random picture of myself in a new pair of glasses but angled the camera a little too much. I guess this moment was meant to be captured.
